Burundi Intervention

Burundi is a small, landlocked country in Central Africa (27 830 km2), with a population of approximately 7 million inhabitants. ACCORD first started working there in 1995, and has since opened four in-country offices in the towns of Bujumbura in 2003, Ruyigi and Rumonge in 2004, and Rutana in 2008. ACCORD uses its presence in the country to facilitate interactions among key stakeholders in Burundi and surrounding nations, build the skills of community leaders, politicians and civil society organisations, and assist in the peaceful reintegration of returning refugees.
