On 21 November 2015, ACCORD’s Executive Director Vasu Gounden made a call for the United Nations to convene the first ever UN Global Conference on Peace. He proposed that this groundbreaking event be held in Durban in 2019 – the 25th anniversary of South Africa’s democracy.
